Swat
Swat is a paradise of Pakistan. There is no beauty in this world other than Swat. The river Swat is a clear water river starting from the Ushu rage of mountains to he spread of the valley of Swat. It is the most green valleys of the Northern Pakistan and is well connected to the rest of Pakistan.
The capital of swat is Saidu Sharif. With high mountains, green meadows, and clear lakes, it is a place of great natural beauty, and a popular destination for tourists.
Also known as the Switzerland of Pakistan, Swat is lush green and is located about 250 kilometres away from Islamabad and 160 kilometres from Peshawar. The Swat Valley is well connected by air and road to other parts of Pakistan. Swat is well connected with Islamabad with regular flights.
The people of Swat are Muslim Pathans, Kohistanis and Gujars. Some have very distinct features and claim to be descendants of Alexander the Great. The Swat women wear colourful embroidered shirts and shalwars (baggy trousers). The men wear shalwar-gamiz and embroidered caps or silk turban.
Swat is not only popular for its beautiful scenery around the world, the valley also has a rich past. The valley of Swat sprawls over 10,360 sq. kms at an average elevation of 975 metres. The maximum temperature is maximum 21 C and minimum 7 C. The tourist season continues all year round.
From the Second Century B.C Until the Ninth Century A.D, Buddhism flourished in Swat, and the vale was the birth place of Vajrayana (Tibetan) Buddhism. In the eighth century the historical figure who has come to be known as Guru Rimpoche or Padmasambhava left Swat, or Uddiyana as it was called then, and embarked on his long journey of conversion through Ladakh and Tibet. The Nyingma sect of Buddhism that he taught is still followed in many regions within Ladakh, Tibet and Nepal. Scores of archeological sites in Swat recall its Buddhist era, a period that lasted in a small way untill the sixteenth century.
Swat was also the historic land where muslim conquerors like Mahmud of Ghazni, Babur and Akbar fought their battles preparatory to the conquest of the subcontinent. The ruins of great Buddhist stupas, monasteries and statues are found all over Swat.
The upper valleys of Swat Kohistan, "Swat's Land of Mountains," rise up to steep, pine-covered ridges that lead toward scores of snow-clad 18,000-foot peaks. Swat receives adequate monsoon rain and has an Alpine flavour reminiscent of the Rockies or Alps.
You can also visit to Saidu Sharif, which is the headquarters of the Swat Valley. Swat Museum in Saidu Sharif is a must visit in Saidu Sharif. The other historic places near Saidu Sharif that you can visit include Mingora and Madyan. A visit to bazaars of Madyan and Bahrain is an exciting thing to do in Swat Valley. Swat Valley is an ideal place for trekking and fishing. Marghazar, 13 kms from Saidu Sharif is another captivating spot worth visiting which is famous for its "Sufaid Mahal" (White Mahal). This is the white marble palace of the former Wali (ruler) of Swat.
